I broke my timing chain plastic guide rail when replacing the headgasket. Not the tensioner but the guide rail on the driver side. About an inch broke of from the top. I bought the part however I really don't want to have to replace it. I need to remove the crankshaft nut and lower timing chain case. Do you think that it necessary to replace the guide rail? If the engine rotates counterclockwise there should not be a problem leaving it as is, Right? Any suggestions would be appreciated.

to be left handed. Think all engines are the same.

engine, I know what you mean about the challenge you are facing now, but...
If you take a look on the archives, some time ago George post something in response to exactly the same case (the victim was not looking to leave it broken thouh). Whenever I have to change my headgasket, I surely will ask George for hints first.
