View Full Version : Air horn recommendations?

I'd like to get an air horn for my car, whilst still keeping the stock horn. Crowd control you see. Anyone have something like this installed? I'd like a trumpet, but not sure if it'd fit under the hood. In any case, the visuals are not so important. What I want the most is a deep truck sound, like the big rigs. Don't need 600dB, but a good volume would be best. Also, I want to wire it in such a way that i have a separate button controlling it, perhaps besides the fog switch where there appears to be a slot that resembles a blank so maybe some wiring tips would be good too. Any of the kits on ebay good? I will post some links if it makes it easier. I am not really an expert on this. Looking to spend maybe $50.

I bought a couple sets of these horns.
Replaced the wimpy horn on my '79 Rx7, it is extremly loud now.
They are on sale at least every other month for $13. Even at the list price of $19. , they are a steal IMO.
Pretty high quality unit made in Italy. I did substitute the weak vinyl hoses with nylon braded hose from ACE hardware store, cut to length from the bulk hose section in the store.
I also painted the horns black with some of that Krylon 'Fusion' plastic paint to make them last longer.

Thanks for the replies y'all. I think this is kind of what I am looking for, in terms of volume and sound:

Unfortunately, I've only found one place that sells it so far and they want $110 for it, plus shipping: servicemate.com

What about a visit to a breaker's yard? You may hit lucky!

I dont know, the lowest I ever saw any go for was right around 500.00. Plus then you need a tank to charge, and a compressor but thats optional. These things are like 2 feet long pointing all the same way!!! This is some serious stuff.

Thanks for the suggestions. 530-680Hz sounds kind of high pitched. Also, I do not want it to sound like a Ferrari. More like a freight train, or even better, a big truck. A truck scrap yard sounds like the perfect place to look actually.
Anyone ever tried these:
