View Full Version : Brake Vacuum LIne Grommet
I'm replacing the vacuum line that goes from the booster to the intake manifold.

.
I need a new grommet right where the line goes into the booster.
It's the grommet where No. 6 plugs into in the diagram
ETK shows no part number; Both the stealer ande BMA tell me I'll have to find one from a wreck or buy a new booster. WTF? It's a rubber ring!!
Anyone have a suggestion as to where I can get this elusive part?
Thanks in advance.

and try to find a replacement.
I've fixed some odd things by matching O rings, plugs, swtiches and bulbs... etc from hardware and parts shops.
I'm taking measurements tonight.
I've already hit 2 HD's and a Lowe's. Tomorrow, I'm trying a plumbing supply house.
There's a few places on the 'net that I'm scouring too.
What a PITA!

I used to buy a bunch of stuff for my home brewery from them.

Let us know if you find one. Mine's getting a bit hard too.

Removing this gromet will revoke many booster warranties. Napa usualy has them in assorted sizes, take it to them and match it up.
or go to a junk yard that lets you pull you own parts, can probably get it for 5 bucks or under.

I felt it might break the connection if I forced it any further. I thought it might be leaking air, but it wasn't worn out, I just wanted to be sure it wasn't- so I ran soem hylomar around it instead.
If you do replace it you'd really want to make sure the replacement is petrol/oil proof (made out of neoprene).
ATE sell them as spares I am sure; www.ate.de (http://www.ate.de) or even better go look it up in their web catalogue. (BMA should be able to get it therefore, but may not be able to access it from the BMW ETK).
Whilst you are onto them please ask them to check a price on brake booster rebuild kits for yoru car, we'll all be interested in these... as is Shogun who was asking recently....
To check the part number you need use MS Internet Explorer to browse to the bodgey 'web catalog' here on the ATE English website (http://www.ate.de/generator/www/com/en/ate/ate/general/home/index_en.html)
Then again, maybe Girling have them available too...
Cheers, :) Nick
I went over to my indy and asked him about the grommet. He looked it up and showed me the corresponding part number from a 2000 540i:
34 33 1 158 929
$3.75 USD
He says BMW has a habit of dropping small stuff from the ETK for no reason at all; especially for 'older' models.
