Guys i just pulled the back seat cushion off to find that the po installed a 220CCA battery instead of the Din88/85L battery with 600CCA! Should I change the battery even though its not giving me any trouble?

Alot of folks here will tell you its fine, and I suppose it is if you keep an eye on it. Alot of folks will put up with all sorts of nonsense with underrated batteries just so they can save a few bucks.

My feeling is that the battery starts the car, therefore it should be one of the items we don't skimp on. If it was my car, I would replace it. But then I have no problem spending over $100.00 on a battery that I know is dependable and meets BMW specs. I havn't experienced a Battery related no start in 23 years either, when I learned the hard way, cheap batteries suck.

If it does not have proper venting, replace it period.

220 CCA? That sounds awfully low. Even a motorcycle battery should have more. I think even 600 sounds marginal. I will check the Bentley for you if you wish, but I know the 540 battery specifies ~750.

Yeah good idea in time for winter. Think of the strain that the M30 will put on 220cca on a cold morning!

Sounds like you made a decision already, Anyway I would like to add my 2 cents worth.
A small capacity battery such as the 220CCA will have an increased voltage drop when it is taxed to the limit. Typically this happens on a start up in cold weather.

To the ignorant, all they seem to notice is sluggish cranking speed, however serious damage is happing.

(1) The battery cables overheat and damage the terminals begins.
(2) The starter relay contacts overheat and the life span is shortened.
(3) The starter brushes and winding overheat and the life span is shortened.

Anyway, good luck!
