Hi, I was looking for a new rim for my E34 95' 530i and I found one:
18" x 8-1/2" ET35 w/ 225/40ZR18 - 92W

However, the original offset for the E34 is 20 and after the calculation:
Assume the OEM 15" rim is 7"(Am I right?)

"The clearance from stut housing to the inside of the wheel will be 34mm LESS
The outside edge of the wheel will EXTEND an extra 4mm"

Will it be ok if the inside is 34mm less? or it will hits the strut?

or if use a 15mm spacer, which bring down the new offset back to 20:

"The clearance from stut housing to the inside of the wheel will be 19mm LESS
The outside edge of the wheel will EXTEND an extra 19mm"

Will the 19mm less inside acceptable? And how about the 19mm extra outside?

Calculation was done by this websitehttp://marksink.com/tire_wheel_offset/offset.html

And other suggestion, command or other offset/spacer combination? should I consider this wheels or not at all

Thanks so much!

i wouldnt consider those wheels. The E34 suspension has a hard time dealing with the OEM offset.

i wouldnt consider those wheels. The E34 suspension has a hard time dealing with the OEM offset.

you mean that the OEM (ET20) offset is not good for the 18" x 8.5" rim or?

Sorry, I'm just a little bit confused.

Also, I saw "ET20 at 15" rims and goes down to ET13 at 18", does it means 18" rims should have a offset lower then 20?

Thanks for your response!!:D

et 35 is 3-series offset and would require a 15mm spacer. sure it can be done, but you would then need longer lug bolts and your ride quality would probly suck.

the offset is more related to the width...trust us,ET35 is no good.

Thanks you guys for all the response.

I will take the advise and consider buying a new set of 18"x8" ET20 rims

or 18" x 8 1/2" ET15 rims.

In this case, which one is better in your point of view?

they will both be fine. are you going to run staggered, 18x8.5 up front and 18x9.5 or 18x10 in the rear?

Batsheep

No, I'm not going staggered with 9.5 or 10" since they're not in my tight budget Q__Q...

but maybe I can go with F8.0 and R8.5~~lol

Thanks for the idea!

I'm still considering buying the ET35 wheels w/ spacer since they're almost only 1/2 of the price then a new tire/rim package Q___Q

staggered wouldn't/shouldn't affect price very much. post pics of the wheels you're considering!

the rim I'm considering is $199 each and the max wide is 8.5"

thus I can go with F 8 R 8.5 which has the same price.

But if I need to go up to 9 or 10, then I probably need to consider the more expansive one O___O|||

That's what I mean in the previous post, sorry if it was not clear @w@

This is the one I'm looking at. OE Replica M5 R89

ha...just some out-of-topic talk.

I really found this site useful, especially folks here are really friendly and knowledgeable compare to many other site I had visit before.

A Very Big Thank You to everyone here!!

dude, try to get the correct spacing. spacers are spooky mystery items that have no place unless the car is parked sitting on display, plus they kinda look funky with the spoke part sticking way far out. Do it right the first time.

Good luck.

I have decided to go with a et20 wheel rather then the 35

also, should i lower the offset to around 15~18 since the rim is 8.5" inch wide?

Batsheep

Also, the rim I'm looking has 2 sizes:

18 x 8.5 ET15
18 x 8.0 ET18

by using the calculator:

18 x 8.5 at ET15 will be
14mm less inside and 24mm extend outward

18 x 8.0 at ET18 will be
11mm less inside and 15mm extend outward

will it be fine if I use the 8.5 for rear and 8.0 for front to make it a little staggered?

or which one will be better for the original ET20?

Thanks :")

By the information above, which set is most recommaned?

PS. 235/40R18 and 245/40R18 is listed in bmwe34 website for 18 x 8.5 wheels

at this point, I guess i will use
245/40R18 with 18 x 8.5 for rear
235/40R18 with 18 x 8.0 for the front.

I guess 265/35R18 is out of the wheel width already.

any suggestion will be appreciate:)

go with 18x8.5 all around. it will look good. et 15 is just fine. you don't really have to worry about that calculator thingy. as long as your et is close to 20, it will be alright. for instance i had wheels on that were et 13, and there were no fitment issues.

Batsheep

Okie, then I will probably go 8.5 all around.

how about the tires?

will 235 more suitable then 245? Since 235 is listed as "popular" in BMWE34 website.

I have a 3/8" torque wrench and it works fine for torquing wheels. It's actually nice to have both. I eventually will pick up a 1/2".

Ha, thanks for help

I guess I will pickup a 1/2" and see how is it.
