Hi All,
My Indy currently pours in non synthetic 20W50 (I dont know what brand it is). I am planning to change oil this time myself.
Which is the best Engine oil for M60? What should be the oil change interval? Can I switch to synthetic; will my car take it?
I live in Atlanta, GA area. Here it gets to around 90F in summer and around 30F in winter.
Thanks

Synthetic Mobil 1 0w-40, hard to find where I live so I try to pick up a few quarts anytime I drive by a store that carries it. You can change to synthetic anytime, no worries.

What oil viscosity does BMW NOW recommend for our e34s? Oils have changed a bit since the 89-96 time period. I suspect that BMW has changed thier specs a bit.
BTW, I am now trying Castrol Syntec 5w50. Seems to run reasonably quiet. I found Mobil 1 0w40 a bit noisy and sheared down quickly per used oil analysis.

M1 doesnt fair the best in UOAs, fine at 3K intervals, however Redline and Amsoil always do well, even up to 15K intervals sometimes.
I would do an autorx treatment on your engine during the oil change, use a 10W40 synthetic (cheap) then a 10W40 dino (also cheap) for the rinse.
I would do 2 autorx cycles then change to Redline 10W40 or 15W50 (if you track often)

Second the auto-RX treatment. Just finished the second treatment and rinse on my 525i. Seemed to help the car run smoother.

From what I have heard, M1 0W-40 synthetic is the only non-BMW oil that is recomended for our cars. Otherwise it's supposed to be the OEM 5W-30 (I think) from the dealer.

I use LubroMoly oil, 0W40 in the winter, and will be switching to 5W40 when i start an autorx treatment.
the 5W40 stuff is actually approved by bmw.
dont use 30wt in an E34 engine.
