That RONCO paintless dent removal kit should take care of it...

I find it kind of amazing how the rest of the car outside of the point of impact held its shape.

id say faster from looking at how some big stuff went plastic in it's movements, i've seen and stripped quite a few e34s and it takes a **** load of force to do that, more then the avarage **** up, this is in the range of that audi that was cut in two by the tree
My guess: 60 MPH, sideways.

Once a year there is an ice cream social in the park across the street. They have llamas for the small children to ride. Hubby and I call it "Llama Day" and always look forward to it. We go over and commune with the llamas before the rides start. I thought it was cool the way this bunch came over to look at my e34. Obviously llamas with taste.

Well, I guessed that he hit the pole sideways, rather than head-on. That's my non-expert opinion based on not-very-careful study of the photos :)
If that's in fact what happened, you would expect more damage than a head-on collision at a similar speed, since the car is less able to absorb a side impact.
I dunno if I'm making sense. Whatever. I need a drink.

Take a visit to Chechnya, wherever the **** that is, it's probably still there.
Oh by the way I have a picture from the newspaper from 3 days ago about reconstruction in Chechnya, shows an E34, I'll scan it, It was too amazing so I jacked it from one of many Portland area Starbucks lol
But yea, pics on the way... It's probably used for hauling off russian soldiers or something and using them in hostage videos...

Wow is it my imagination or does it look like the boot is still in alignment? :D
That's the second one we've seen like that- ie where the pole goes straight into the dash from behind the front wheel. Be careful everybody, when driving sideways; (instead of forwards as most people do); be sure to take extra care around poles!
In this instance there was enough force for the car to continue around the pole so Winfred is probably right- a lot of speed would have been involved. 100kmh to dead stop within 1m is a lot though (27.7m/s to 0 in 1 metre=about 48MN of force (ie tough pole) and about 3 Gs on the occupants. Not a nice amount of force to encounter when it is going in the opposite direction to what you are used to (ever fallen flat on your face from 1m? Imagine not being able to brace yourself! Now imagine falling from 3m the same way! So it may be academic argument... I guess once the pole is through the pillar the only thing stopping it is the floorpan and a torso (I don't suppose teh legs count by then).
I suspect it was a drug-related getaway with some illicit material inspiring 'over-spirited driving'. Surely only druglords can justify driving 535s in europe, they cost so much in gas you really have to have the 'need' for the speed....
So everyone remember, our cars have a weak spot right there in the middle.
