are throwing stars the best?

i see a lot of e34 with them.
at first i thought they look too plan but the more and more i see them
the larger my appreciation for them grows.
but before i decide to get them i have some questions
(i could probably look up the answers but wheres the fun in that)

How big are they?
How much are they?
Is there a better set of rims for e34s?

I don't care for throwing stars. There are plenty of other wheels I would actually prefer to have on my car. ...Brace for flames... I have never heard anything bad about Rondell wheels. I had a set of 16" on my old Bimmer, and it looked fantastic. #58's if memory serves. Check out the Wheel Exchange. I think their prices are fair. Of course the apex of the aluminum heap is going to almost universally be BBS. I don't know about fitment on the throwing stars, though.

Yup, the best. They are 17 x 8" with some 17 x 9" rears for later Euro m5's. There are also some for the 8 series with different offset. The m5 tstars have a 20mm offset.

My favorite on the E34, plus they're strong, light, and help cool the brakes. There's other stuff that's nice, but to get that weight and strength in a new wheel is big bucks.

you can find a LOT of variations and intensities of them with polished lips though....I'm not a fan of mirror polishing, but somewhere in the middle looks good on many colors

scott, there is nothing more bitchin than your road american 535iTm, 'esp with your roof nubs....looks so awesome...though you may have to upgrade your mirrors, and get some clear tails..... :) damn that looks good. I bumped around your RA pages....sweet.

Given how well my style 5s came back from the polishers, I'm planning on having them do up my M systems.

I'm not really a fan of either cover -- tstar or turbine -- and run mine balls out bad and black.


I have always been told that these wheels are $1500 on the used market, but who knows.

The contrast on your set-up is just right. Two shades of similar color, matching skirts/bumpers, etc.....kickass.....now you just need to get that front end down about 4" LOL :D

Brandon H is telling me the same thing re: rear clears. I know it takes a bit of a hack up to get them on the touring. Is it worth the trouble? I do have rear fogs as well....installed when I did all that wiring! Also ran to the correct pinout on the cluster so that the display icon lights up when in use.

I installed an M3 steering wheel...have you tried to find one yet? Kind of a nice touch and feels better than the stocker. Would like to locate some M5 front seats for it. I miss them whenever I come back from a drive in the M5. Also needs a major repaint.....clearcoat is trashed. Pics from >5' away are very forgiving and hide the truth nicely. ;)

I got the original set for my old 535 for $1,000 shipped (no tires) .....and that was 5 - 17x8 wheels with turbine covers...

I found t-star covers for $125 shipped about a week later.

I run mine w/o the covers sometimes too, in fact, I painted the ones on the wagon entirely silver since the wagon is silver.....have yet to run them that way and take pics.

I had a deal going for $850 on a set of four 17x8 T-Stars, two good tires, two shot tires. They were pretty good, minor curbing with a few scratches on the cover. Pretty good deal, but the guy was really flaky and took forever to respond to me. Turned out he was going through some personal issues, I'm dissapointed I missed out, even though I like the M-Contour reps that I ended up with.

For me, the best E34 wheel set-up would be staggered T-Stars with polished lips. Staggered are pretty pricey, unfortunately.

Damn... there was a set of e34 touring clears going for cheap on bimmerforums. I'll try digging up the post but you might want to give it a try yourself :)

Matter of opinion. I personally like a 5 spoke star pattern, hence I have the Racing Dynamics wheels. I also love the Mille Miglias. AC Schnitzers aren't bad either, but the spokes are a little too wide. My opinion. Oh, I forgot about M parallels, love those wheels ( also star pattern ).

When I buy a donor black interior M5 this summer, I will make all the necessary braking and suspension changes

I have an extra set of rear blinker buckets for when your clear lenses arrive from the NL. It's not that hard...in comparison to your engine swap it should be a piece of cake. dremel, long sheet sander that you turn upside down to fab/correct the clear lens, some tint to darken the lens a bit, good glue and silicon and you're done. When you finish clearing mine, you just swap out the buckets and send me back your oems. Got that done yet? ;)

Caught the 4y/o walking on the hood, stepping on the windshield wipers and the roof with muddy sneakers the other day....so it's 10 feet or better for my tourer now...lotsa wax

Indeed. If you asked my boss, he'd likely say they are the best. Me, on the other hand, they are just fine but not for my car. I went with 18" Beyern Mesh less than a week after getting my E34.
