How wide are your tires?

I already got some 255's on 18'' at the back and 225's at the front.

Do you think that 275's/back and 235's/front would fit?

Is it too wide?

It's depended on the size and offset of your wheels. 18x8 offset 20 will be fine with 245/40/18 tires in front, and 18x9 offset 22 will be fine with 275/35/18 tires in the back.

here's the exact dimention of the rims:

Wheel
Front 18x8.5 5x120 +15 74.1 center bore (1.5 inch high polish lip)
Rear 18x9.5 5x120 +25 74.1 center bore (3.5 inch high polish lip)
Tire
Front 245/40/18
Rear 275/35/18

So the offset is to big?

If it doesn't fit, do you know if I can put 255's or 265's on 9.5'' wide wheels?

Front will be no problem. The rear wheels are 9mm close to the inner fender well and extend 3mm more out if compare to 18x9 offset 22. I think the best bet would be 265/35/18 tires, and it might rub in the inside. And keep in mind, not all tires are made the same, some are wider even if they are the same size.

I'm so glad this thread came up. I was looking at a 2001 e39 M5 over the weekend. It had 275's on the rear and 245's on the front and i was wondering if I were to track down some of these wheels (even reproductions) would they would fit. Anyone know the offset specifications for these factory m5 wheels? To xuor's original question on size, would this be a better means of fitting 275s/245s on our e34s?

I could see the advantage in running 245s on all 4 corners. You can at least rotate front to back. But I'm looing to go staggered.

Well, in case anyone other than me is interested, I found the specs on these factory M5 wheels.

Saj3n's car I work on has 285's on 9 or 9.5"

No rubbing at all and no fender roll.

I went with 255 because im euro as hell...

no seriously, I went 255 because i like the look of it and it also buys me some fender clearance. I haven't had to roll my fenders really... the tires did it for me ha. J/K they do not rub very much at all, over decent dips on like a highway I'll get some but nothing bad at all. My rear end is pretty low also.

The offset is 10mm..they poke out a bit too, thats the look I like and I knew anything over 255 would rub.

the e39 M5 wheelset fits our cars perfectly with the 245/275 set up. You will need ecc rings for the difference in hubs. I am switching mine from my e39 to the e34 and replacing the m5 set next month.

Make sure you get aluminum centric rings if you dont want to shake your **** to death.

Why's that? I see no reason with plastic ones other than they break easily when taking wheels on and off. I work at a tire shop and we use them all the time, in fact, I have plastic rings on my E34.

Ask anyone with an E34 what happens with plastic rings. Our front control arms are EXTREMELY sensitive. The rings dont break on removal, over time they warp and compress and lose shape and next thing you know you've got a shimmy from hell.

Thanks for the heads-up. The plastic ones cost me a woppin $2.80 so they'll do for now. I'll pick up some aluminum ones in the future though!

Thanks, The wheels are 8" and 9" front to back. If I remember correctly they are either 22mm or maybe 24mm. I've done a couple of auto-x with this setup with no rubbing. I was going balls out around the cones with no problem.

**** dude, I've been running with plastics for awhile now. This sucks. came with the rims and tires I bought from a guy locally. Guess I'll have to change to alluminum. I have never heard of this. Good to know
