i know from posts that bmw recommends 0-40 oil.i have a 91 535i with 210k on the clock and live in tucson arizona 100 - 110 not uncommon. will that still work for me in the desert heat???

only use that weight if your using a full synthetic and personally for that heat I would go a little bit higher, I think sae 30 is good for that app.

Others have had no problem with 0W40 in their M42's. I'm running it currently in the M50 525i, but will change it to 15W50 for summer, as it makes my VANOS grumble a little more than I like. But it does start easier in cold weather!

go for some 15W50 Redline in the HOT months, and 5W40 in the cold months for AZ.

I assumed you meant M1.
