anyone know where (other than the dealer) can you get approved coolant for an M50? Are there any other brands that would work as good as the OEM coolants that you can find locally?

BMA has the coolant for fairly cheap, as does Circle BMW and probably Nick Alexander BMW. It's a bit more expensive than the cheaper stuff, but folks swear at/by it.
(This has been beaten to death, so be prepared for a flame war! ;))

Drain your entire system and run Mercedes coolant. Half the price than at the Bimmer stealer.
