Can anyone tell me what is involved in replacing the plastic "boot" on the auto shifter? Mine is binding up and won't smoothly go into reverse or park.
Thank you in advance.
Cheers.
The plastic strip isn't very expensive, something like $5. You can get them at BMA, BavAuto, or the dealer -- more details, scroll to the bottom paragraph:

Do the boot and indicator serve any other purpose than merely gear position indicator and a boot to keep crud from falling into the console??Do they regulate or signal something with regards to the tranny?
My car came with a crumpled slider, I installed another and it crumpled as well. :(
I'm going to do the "notebook" trick on Gale's FANTASTIC page.
Thanks, Gale!! I bookmarked that one.
