Just got done replacing the headgasket and now I have a lot of white smoke comming out of the tailpipe. A did the 3 stage tightening of the head bolts. Do they need more?

The previous symptoms were limited white smoke for 15-20 minutes then it stopped. Been happening for a year I think. Was very small at first then gradually increased in time. Today just finished the job and whamo smoke galore. Especially on acceleration.

any possibility that its burning off 'remnants' from the project? how long after the replacement did it run for?
*just trying to go through any possible thing i could think of*

Is this the sort of thing that after and hour or so the gasket will seal itself?

I ran it for 25 mins the tightened the additional 35 degrees required, after it cooled. Then I drained the coolant and replaced it as well as the oil and filter. Took it out again, man did I miss driving for the 3 weeks it took me to do the just - just had a baby, and the white smoke be flowin'

Update! After 2 hours the steam out of the tail stopped. I was on the way to take it to the resident expert mechanic and I guess my car got scared and stopped smoking. Perhaps it took time for the gasket to seat itself? Wierd huh?
