Sounds more like it's her own personal //m. Probably lived in a manhattan garage most of its like, but just bombed up the Taconic every weekend somewhere. My parents used to make a 72nd and lex up to Manchester, Vt in a 81 blue on tan 528im every weekend, but the car never drove around the city per se ever. They prob put more miles on it, but it was kept in top shape. This might be a sim' sitchiation

Besides the other things already mentioned, for me the red flags go up when I read it "has a new clutch" with only 79k on it. Why??? Someone is such a clutch rider they burned it up? Beat to ****? Hole shots? Donuts on B'way? Cruisin' for crack in Alphabet City?? (being cynical but you get my drift) I guess I question this because I'm still on the original clutch at 172,000 miles.

Being a city car isn't all bad unless the 79k was all city miles, which would be about 300 million miles of "normal" driving. :D I've driven in NYC many times...All suspension and brakes would be shot for sure along with the clutch. I'd be suspicious...who do you get to do a PPI in NYC? There is a dealer in Manhattan but probably need a 3 month lead time for an appointment. Labor rate $250/hr? who knows?

Then again, it could be a very fine specimen...maybe.

up the palisades can be an awesome drive. but traffic on the gw bridge is always a bitch, and now theres cops all over the palisades in these crazy hiding spots. last time i was on it was fun though, back when i had the 525 some kid in a gutted vw gti was on my bumper and we had some fun :). 72nd and lex? niiice.

The original M5 clutches were notoriously stiff (pedal-wise). A redesign was issued but many of the original cars have the original in them still. I changed mine out at 88k for that reason alone.....clutch and flywheel looked find when I removed them.

E34 M5's are notorious for eating lots of expensive things, like water pumps, rear shocks etc, but no problems with the clutch other than the early ones were very stiff as someone has already pointed out

I am going to upgrade my touring hook or by crook, and an M5 like this is just the donor for engine, suspension, electronics, brakes, exhaust, engine mounts, all the goodies to take my 530 to M5T land.

I don't like the thought that the interior looks like it was tan originally, but this doesn't have to be the car...I just thought it might be.

It's a better bet that Saliya or Zaraska will come up with my donor car...or the the real deal itself....like this one.

Sounds like the seller made up some unrealistic terms to bid on the auction.....

Probably forgot to set a reserve, and afraid to get lowballed on it.

can't you just pretend to want to buy it? I need some info on the ground and up close. Hear the motor, see if the exhaust is covered in oil from a small leak at the rear main seal, find out what's up with the interior....if the seller is indeed a girl who's owned the car from new....that sort of thing.

Just call her up and make an arrangement to see the car, and ask her to drive it around with you in it.

This is a bad turn for car scams, in the past they were poorly written generic messages, and pretty easy to sniff out. Unfortunately, this one seems to be fairly well written, applies to the specific car in question, and is at least somewhat believable. People just need to remember, if it looks too good to be true, it probably is. Further reinforcing why I will never put money down on something that I haven't seen in person first. Call me a sissy, but how in the hell do people do it? I sold a '70 911 to a guy in California, all he saw of the car was in pictures. I described it very accurately, but I could have screwed him over quite easily.
