Well, I decided to re-badge the car. Some of you may know I was all for the no badge for the last year or so just because it looks more clean on the trunk.

But after reading Satch Carlson's reply to a Roundel reader's inquision on a 7-series (June 2006 Roundel, page 8) I decided to rebadge. I'm sure a lot of you would agree with his words.


It's a 7 Series: many Europeans strip the designations off their BMWs so people will mistake their 730i for a 760i.
It seems most true Bimmer nuts and I'm sure most true European automotive enthusiasts in the U.S. believe that the de-badge is misleading. I'm not one to false advertise, so I decided to put it back on. I stole the badge off eBay for 99 cents plus 3 bucks shipping. Here are some before and after shots (sorry for the poop quality:D):

sorry, better before. At least it's in the right spot though. I can't tell you how many BMW's I have seen with the badge on the wrong side, too high up the trunk, or even next to the roundel.

Yeah, I looked at a couple pictures before putting it on. Actually up close you could still see the glue markings on the paint of where the old badge was. Placement was pretty easy.

Don't let other's sway your decision, do what you think looks nice.

Personally, I think it looks nice on certain models.

I rebadged mine with the italicized version (same model of course) to give it a little more modern look.

Your car looked good debadged, but it looks good now as well. I plan on keeping the badges as well, not because it's a 540, but because I think they look best on black because of the contrast. Also, i don't think people debadge their cars strictly so that others think they have a top of the line car, but so that people behind them on the autobahn don't know how much power they're packing (I've asked, as there's hardly a BMW in Germany that still has its badges). I have seen a few debadged 540i's (at least I thought they were 540i's hehe), M5s and Mercedes E55 AMGs already.

Mine was debadged by the prior owner and I would prefer having the badge. I have just been to lazy to do anything about it. Yours looks nice and inspires me. Thanks for posting.

Yea I definatly depends on your personal preferences.. Allthough IMO I do believe some look better with the badges than others... My silver 5'er would look fine without the badge however I think the silver chrome contrast is nice.. on a silver bimmer.. I just noticed another Pa guy.. cool.. allthough I am more near wilkes barre and scranton...

Personally I think your car looks better without but that's just me...What is the story with that License Plate? It's a ton better than any we can get in GA I will tell you that...what specialty plate is that?

That is a Pa "D.a.r.e." plate it is a anti drug group I am sure you have heard of it...

Of course! In fact thats what everyone did and now PA doesn't offer that plate anymore. Its the same as the normal PA plate with a DARE triangle. I dreamed up the color scheme before I bought the car. Black car, white turn signals, red roundel, and a PA DARE plate.

BTW, it stands for Drugs Are Really Expensive, haha! I'm kidding it stands for Drug Abuse Resistance Education.

You can order your car de-badged from the dealer. My (out going) 535i is debadged. Alot of peolple don't want to advertise that they have a bigger engined or spec'd car to others or to the car thieves. Some like to just remain annonomous or understated. I must say that i like it. My new car, 525i is badged and it's growing on me. What ever takes your fancy at the end of the day.

plain colored cars, like white and black. But it's personal preference for sure. I took it off my 540 but still have them on my 525iT. Now that I've installed the 3.2 M3 engine in the Touring I'm thinking about changing the back emblem to 532i. ;-)

First thing I did was reorder my stock 535i badge for my newly aquired 535i... but its still deceptive since when I'm done it will actually be a 536ti (I guess would be the appropriate badge for a +0.5mm over bore, turbo charged motor)

Personally, I like the clean look of non-badge. I'm not trying to fool anyone, I love my 525i. The only badge that matters to me is the Roundel in the middle!
