I spent $70.00 on a tiny bag of goodies & a jug of coolant to get the Touring ready before I hand the keys to my wife.
new emblems
gas flap hing
few OBC bulbs
few tail light bulbs
touch up paint (Calypsorot)
shifter do dad thing a ma bob
I guess I didn't relize this on my 525 since I bought the simular stuff over time

Hey Bob - same color. New emblems are about the cheapest big bang for the buck appearance-wise I think. Need to do the front on mine.

tried the dental floss method-floss snapped!
Used packing ribbon from copy paper cases, you know that plastic colored ribbon that straps boxes closed.
Slipped it under the emblem wrapped it around a few times, wiggle, wiggle, tug, tug and pop goes the emblem.
I'm in the last two weeks of a three month E34 project. I plan to post pics and the budget.

Yes, I too was just enlightened of the costly side of BMW ownership, er, hobby, last night... according to this here spreadsheet I've already put in $3,500, not including tools and detailing equip. since last august. Wheels have been my only "mod," everything else just maintenance, yikes! :D
It seems to make no sense what is costly and what isn't. I was just quoted a hundred bucks for the outside MIRROR GLASS!
you can find that glass for $10... buy the whole mirror on ebay for $30... etc etc
where? it's heated. all I could find on ebay was cheeso boy racer stuff.
i replaced that glass on my driver's side... i don't remember who sold it to me.. someone in VA.. they also sold me a steering wheel with airbag... $100
keep searching the forums and ebay and you'll find what you need...
also i know there are at least five E34s on ebay being parted out right now... search

Drivers side, thanks though!
I'll keep sniffing around. I just bought this thing and am doing my usual make everything perfect. I hate it when stuff is broken. I won't see a doctor when I should but if the car has a rattle I'll try to fix it while driving. Frued may have had something to say about this. Perhaps it has to do with being potty trained at gunpoint.
