is there ANY need for the stock tool set in the trunk?
other than owning BMW tools, i mean.
i believe there are instances where they are of use. Like removing the radio, that torx driver is needed. You'll notice when you need one of them and find it missing.

Especially if you own a 750 you will be happy to have the spark plug tool with you. Because the one for the V12 is a special one with telescope extention to the # 12 especially, which 'only' requires about 1 1/2 hours incl. removing many parts to get to the plug.

gas station using only the trunk tools.
They come handy if you do not have anything else.

I use mine quite often. I almost always look there first before dragging my tool box out. BMW would not have put them there if they weren't useful and intended to be used.

I even have the BMW OEM blue cleaning cloth with the BMW logo in the tool box. Many people want to have it now to have the tool box complete, but it is no longer available from the dealer.

It is shown on realoem in detail with part numbers. And the scope of delivery changes depending on optional items offered. For example if your car has an electric sunroof, there will be the handle included for emergency opening/closing when the electric motor fails.
The spark plug tool is different on E32 6 clylinder and 12 cylinder cars.

Its just there to keep the originality of the car, but for some people who heavily mod the e34 I can see no use for it other than it weighing the car down.

I needed my trunk tool kit last night when I got a flat rear tire.
That means the special tool to remove the center cap, the wheel bolt tool, the wheel lock key!!! (lucky, I have it in the trunk)
Chock, steel 71 11 1 179, Lifting jack 71 12 1 128 771 or 71 12 1 180 186.
And when have you checked the last time the tire pressure of your spare wheel?
