Help!! Would an 89 635im tranny bolt on my E34 535im?

If you can provide the last 7 digits of the VIN for both cars, we can check ETK.

My guess is no. While the transmissions look very very similar, the output shaft and flange on an E28 transmission is different (longer by about 2cm) than the Getrag in the E34. To get the driveline to fit, it would need to be shortened.

I just hung up with the mechanic. They said they had to use a different flange to get it to fit. I will keep you posted after the test drive.

It's been installed?

I looked at an E28 Getrag 260/5 tranny. The flange is different (you can swap that) but the big problem was that the output shaft was too long as well. The E34 driveshaft would not center over the pin. I'd be curious to match up part and vin #'s to see if what went in your car is the same as the E28 unit.

I will try to get both vins when I get home. BTW its a Getrag 260/6. out of an 89 635..
still waiting for the call re-the test drive.
