..........any kind of plating will only work when the rotor is very new. Once the plating wears off, they will be just like ordinary rotors. Plating is just that, Plating.

And come to think of it, cadmium is a poisenous heavy metal (not in the AC/DC or Metallica sense) and so not good to cadmium dust all over the roads.

Plating will help such that the end of the rotors will not rust out ;) Anyway, in my opinion this is a good price for the set.

I havent ever heard of the ends of rotors "rusting out," i always thought rust was normal. I would be careful of rotors that claim to be plated with anything, especially Cadmium. Even if it is a good price, it might be a mistake to buy from someone who makes such claims...

Yeah the 'hats' or whatever the ends are called, whereby you bolt them on the hub rusts and doesn't look too great. I assume plated ones alleviate this problem.

Oh, and from what I read, most rotors ARE gold cadmium plated. On the other hand, cadmium is a toxic carcinogen produced through smelting for other metals such as copper or zinc. In addition to the negative environmental effects, cad plating may be a hindrance to properly bedding-in brake rotors.

Most rotors for most cars come cadmium plated from the OE supplier (some aftermarket suppliers cheap out by not coating them). Like QUBE stated, it keeps the hats, and the ventilation fins from rusting, as far as bedding in, the cadmium is worn off of the braking surface after the 2nd or 3rd stop, so if you replace the pads at the same time, the coating should all wear off at the same time and the "bedding in" can begin.
