Problem w/ Automatic Selector Lever

While shifting from reverse to drive this afternoon, the shift handle came up a bit as well as the pull rod. I then found out that I had only Neutral and Drive. It was locked out of reverse and the lower gears. Is there something that the pull rod needs to be connected to at its lower end, or is it somehow connected to the selector lever shaft which is in turn connected to the cable assembly? I've looked at 250-5 of the Bentley, but it does not address my problem.

Driving w/out reverse has become very interesting and in need of forethought as to where to park!

Press the switch under the handle up while you pull the handle out. Keep depressed or else you'll loose the white plastic inside it. Probably the white plastic pin slipped out of the handle. There is a hole in the pin. Put it back correctly and then tighten the lock screw in front of the handle.
