Did my first run ever at the track last night, my 93 525i 5spd did a 16.125 on the first run, and on my second run I got a 16.7 @87mph (Dropped the clutch too soon and bogged 1st gear). This was with the spare tire, rear seats, and trunk speakers still in (person who I was supposed to leave that crap with didnt bring his truck, so I was stuck with it).
Whats odd is that on my first run, I went up against one of the two other BMWs there, a 330i auto, and beat him - he got a 16.434 (with a chip, but he wouldnt say which one), but I also met a guy with a 325i stick that was running 15.2s (with the shark chip).
Hopefully, if I get a EAT chip and shedding some weight, I should be able to get it into the 15.5s.
Reaction times were .850 and .750

Faster than a 330 auto? wow. That's pretty surprising.

Who knows. He said it was a 330, but the thing was de-badged, so I guess it could have been anything, but it was definitely slower, not only in the shifts, but I was pulling on him in 3rd gear.
The 325i 5spd on the other hand took home some 15.2s and 15.3s, way better than mine.

Not that I don't believe you - just seems surprising. From all the right seat work I've done on track days, I've decided you never really can estimate what's "fast" just by looking at it. Of course, this is roadcourse work...slightly different.

Great times and mph for a 525i, I'm hoping my 535i will break the 16.0 barrier. :)
What elevation are you at, and what were your 60' times?

Yes, Im in gainesville, Fl. I went to Gainesville Raceway for test and tune on wednesday nights. Me and some of the mech engineering guys went out. I'll probably run again next wednesday if anyone is interested in coming out, but I probably won't run after that until I get a chip for the car.
It was decently cool out last night, somewhere around -21F. Oh yeah, silly temp sensor needs to be replaced. Seriously, somewhere around 65-70.
Dunno elevation, I'll trust Ryans 167 Feet.

Most BMW IRS setups don't care for dragstrip style launches. Were you getting a lot of wheel hop ?

it depends on the amount of grip and how the tires react with it on how pissed the rear suspension gets on the e30, the toyo's i have on it now can be roasted without much hop, i had some tires on there that would hop if you even thought about spinning them, i could spin em all the way through 3rd on a wet street and they would just bounce unmercifully, i've had no such issues on the e34 yet and i have performed a couple smokeys and some 3rd gear wet street stuff, the 535 has a unlimmited slip 3.91 soon to be 4.27 posi the 325 has a 3.73 posi (just about the perfect gearing for a e30 I 5 speed)

i SINCERELY hope that the 330 you refer to does not belong to an individual with the initials GKM
:D :D if it does, he's 10x more immature than i thought and i'll be sure not to take any other classes with him if humanly possible .

2.487 on my first run (better one)
2.931 on my second run (bogged 1st gear), but I trapped a faster speed @ 87 vs 85
Going again this wednesday minus the spare tire and trunk speakers.

Forgive my ignorance, but does the 525i have IRS? I didn't know that it did.

You may crack into the 15s if you can drop 50 pounds or so and get the launch down. That mph is good for it.
Dan- all BMWs have an IRS.

Like I said, dropping the spare tire and trunk speakers, tire jack, mabye even the rear seats. I have every intention of breaking the 15 s barrier this wednesday. Some punk in my hydraulics class thinks he's gonna get there first with his focus stick (his best was a 16.4), but we'll see :)
