I still think that the best thing to do is to use a smaller program first. Focus on light, contrast, the relationship between brightness and saturation, etc. Then work with a vector based text edit program. All these things give you a nice idea of what makes decent composition. After that, photo shop lets you do all the fun stuff the other progs won't--stuff like cut outs, pin point gradiant, wash, stroke convert, etc.!
Practice, practice, practice:D

Try www.tutorialized.com
That will have links to hundreds of photoshop tutorials, including those that cover the basics.

www.good-tutorials.com is decent as well.
Nice work on the pics, I like the one with the trees, kinda merges nature with urban.
I really like your rims as well -- in fact, a lot of things that you've done to your car I would like to do on mine too (rims, tinted windows, colour-coded bumpers). Gonna save pics for reference when I get the time and money for my E34 :D

Qube, I'm not sure if I asked you this before....but what kind of m5 spoiler is that? aftermarket, oem???
how much and where?
Actually, I use Paint Shop Pro. Wayyyy back I used to use Aldus Photostyler, then tried Photoshop, now to Paint Shop Pro. It's quite a bit cheaper than Photoshop and is getting more sophisticated by each revision.

Unfortunately they are now owned by Corel so I cannot speak of how bright their future is :(

On that note, I modelled mine after one I saw on the net. It's no longer there as it was hosted on a university site, and I surmise that fellow graduated or moved out

Spoiler is just one of those unpainted trunk lip spoilers on eBay. Just do a search for e34 and hmm.... lip. It was $25 shipped when I got it.

Just curious, in the first pic did you cut the car and then grayscale the backgroud or is there an easier way?
Two easy ways to to it.
1. Cut the car and grayscale.
2. Duplicate the layer, put grayscale on top, and start erasing.
In this case I did both... cut the car, grayscale, then erase a little to show the fog light throw.

Best way is to work with someone who uses it and get them to teach you. It's an amazing tool, but takes a LONG time to master. I've been using it heavy-duty for about ten years and would say it took two years to get reasonable good with it.
It's like having your own photo lab. The scope for what you can do is limitless, but with that comes the requirement for skill, which takes time to develop.
