That gives me an idea of a filter screen between the fan and the condenser and between the condenser and the radiator. Just a thin box screen that would pull straight up and out. You could just knock it clean of the bugs and leaves and reinstall it.
It's either that or a bug zapper....

that blue glow with the periodic crackle and spark.
That would beat all those neon and LED kits

The problem with the E39 fans is that the final stage unit is built into the fan itself, thus when it blows, the fan has to be replaced.
E30/32/34 and pretty much everything earlier seem to eat magnets -- they separate from the housing, corrode, and what not. E34 and earlier cars don't have a screen behind the aux fan motor.
After race prepping a few E36s, I decided it'd be a good idea to install chicken wire behind the grills. Certainly an inexpensive way to prevent some of the potential damage caused by road grime.

that and the lovely air raid siren sound, hard to to beleave they would approve a fan that loud for a $40-50k car
