I think the second ones are rather popular. Made by Depo. Do a search there are a lot of recomendations.

I'm with you, don't like the Halos either on our older cars. A nice set of smoked Euro Smileys with city lights would be nice!!:)

love the hellas but the hella expensive.
One cheaper option is to buy a set of the Depo euro sets and then get a set of smoked headlight covers from bav auto....that would get you close to that look for a lot less money.

Don't put those smoked headlight covers on....They decrease the output of the light, and also, don't cover the intire glass area, leaving a white ring around the smoked region.

How about these (http://lamin-x.com/ecommerce/os/catalog/index.php?cPath=32_90&osCsid=02bd747ab77297dcf55cf134dedb5b3b)? They come in sets/pairs in yellow, smoked, clear, etc., and in different thicknesses(sp?).

So to be sure which ones are those and where did you get them?
Got them on eBay. Check the links I posted and you'll see the differences of them :)

Great info. I must say you might be able to convert me to doing and HID halo kit. Your car looks really nice. What kind of HID's did you use? If you havent already you should do a full step by step right up considering all the time youve invested in research anyway.
looks great!

I just got a set of these a week ago, and Im not real happy with them.
First of all, the comment of being a perfect fitment, is pure crap. The trim ring is a little bigger than the opening in the grill holes, so it took some Dremel work to make them fit.
Then, the wiring harness is nothing that will plug into an e34- essentialy, the harness was worthless- took about 4 hrs of running and matching up the wires, butt splicing and shrink wrapping. The last thing I wanted to do was a Rube Goldberg job with the wiring, but had little other options.
So, they were a bastard to put in, then I find out that the halo's are really dim- cant see them under daylight conditions, and very dim at night.- wich is ok, since now that they are on, I am not so sure I like the halos on an e34.
Opinion? Waste of money and time. Next time, I'll get the depo smileys, or Hellas.

A co-worker has it on his 525 touring. It's fugely, I'll take a pic on Monday.

You don't need to buttsplice. There was a thread here somewhere you use spade connectors. If you need to tap halos, use inline snap in.
Anyway, what bulbs do the halos use on that? You'd do well to post pictures and a short review so that we can all benefit :)

Can you recommend a reputable source for a Depo Halo & HID upgrade kit?

sorry I didnt have my camera handy-
the halos are pre wired in,and are blue in color, and very dim.
Once i pull these out and replace, I will take pics, and provide a more detailed experience.
Took my chances buying off of flea bay.
Sorry i dont have much more to offer, right now.
Ill try to take and post some pics of the current install, and the replacement.
Since previous post,,,,,,,drove into town,,,,,came back home,,and while looking at the front of the car,,noticed that there is a crack in the drvs side high beam,,,,,,,my car is a rock magnet. (waiting on the clear lens protectors from bavAuto).
No reply from the seller of the lights, as to a replacement lens. Not sure there is.
One more reason to buy from a reputable source

I have the Depo's like the ones in the first post in my car. Quality is pretty good, but make sure to get Lamin-X and to seal them around the rings because most of them do have leakage issues. After doing those two things they no longer leak, and are nearly indestructible.

Oh, and I tried the smoked Lamin-X thing a while back, and don't recommend it. It's more of a dark brown, and like LiquidTiger said, it doesn't perfectly cover the circumference, and just doesn't look good. I ended up using some clear Lamin-X for protection purposes. These headlights are nice since it is easy to get in the city lights when you buy the euro bumper trim, since the bulbs and plugs transfer right over. Looks great too!

I had the lamin-X covers on my DEPO Halo's... they looked Ok, but on my next set of headlights Im going to smoke them lightly with hobby tint and then put clear lamin-X on them.. cause I didnt like that you could see the sides of the lens..
Also, the DEPO lights arent great... mine only lasted 6 months :(

The Lamin-X was on them since BEFORE they were installed and a lens still managed to fall off...
S'ok though, cause I managed to crash that corner of the car into a wall two weeks later at the track.

I'm saying that together, we have not only ruined this thread, but the entire website. I would not be surprized if, soon, all BMW owners threw their keys away. I'm tempted to undue the hurt and delete all of my posts, leaving you to look like a crazy man making up quotes.
