Keyless/alarm/remote start system to buy...?

Hello Bima Lovers,

I am looking towards getting car alarm/keyless entry system for my babe. mine is Euro 05/1990 spec. I read from E34.net, but need more from u guys.

I am looking at having a system that, will roll all windows up upon arming, remote start the car and lock/unlock the doors. I am not so technical, what do I need to be ware off before purchasing?

What do you guys think of this Commando Alarm system

I don't have anything to say about the alarm system. However, keep in mind some of us browse the forum at work and would prefer not to have a random boob popping up. I know that you can turn off sigs but I do like to see ppls car sigs.

The more electronic gimmicks installed, the bigger the percentage of trouble.
For all these things you have to install a lot of mircroswitches for example, doors, hood, trunk lid, battery, glove box lid etc.
If one fails, you get an alarm or even the car stops or does not start.
That is the function of the anti-theft device, as we all know.

I have had intermittent trouble some years ago on another car with engine stalling, fuel supply interruped etc.
That was till I ripped out some of the microswitches for the anti theft device.
Maybe they were just misalligned, but that was the trouble source.


remote start the car: I see no advantage to have this.

Especially for our old cars: the more electronics was originally installed with all the possible options , the more trouble you have now or later.

Scytek also makes great alarms.

I am going to assume you dont live where its freezing ass cold in the winter, and having the car thats 150ft away in a foot of snow idle for 10 mins to get warm is the greatest thing in the history of the world!

... anyway, when i got my car i found out by accident i had a Valet remote start system in there, and this was just before winter started, and i had that stupid grin on my face for like, 3 months.

whoever isntalled it didnt do a good job, as the antenna for it was mounted but never plugged into the control unit, otherwise the rest of the electrical installation seems to be done rather well, except for the fact they used left over speaker wire or something.

that is an argument.
We do not have snow here (or once every few years for a day), I leave the apt., use the lift to the underground garage and that is airconditioned.
So no need for me.
If I would live in Canada for example , then I would consider of course to have a programmable heater for the car, but for that the engine does not have to work.
