Bumber adjustment

Hello everyone,

I have a 1989 525

Can someone give me some advice on how to adjust the front and rear bumpers (the spring loaded bracket on the side of the bumper cover), without the special tool that BMW wont sell. I need to bring them in closer to the car.

I have been trying to read past post but I can find anything on what I can use to turn the plastic screw.

the big plastic screw? I used a large screwdriver, it only turns about 1/4 turn til its loose. I dont see how you can adjust it closer from looking around in there, just checked this out a couple weeks ago.
