Got the new fan clutch put it in, knock on wood everything seems to be going fine. One question though. When I took the fan out I think it was put in the wrong way last time. The actual fan has a deep recess in one side and only goes in slightly on the other side. I put it on the side where it "stuck out more" because you can see the marks from the bolts and the small 'grooves" the the clutch has put in the plastic from years of use. The odd thing though is that the fan was on the other way when I took it out. (in the deep side.) Second, where is the ICV on the M60 engine in this picture:

Here's how I put the fan on (the deeper side is facing the water pump)

Is it anywhere near the throttle cable?? Sorry for sounding like an idiot, but it's hard to explain the fan situation...

Last but not least, here's the tool I made to hold the nut while turning with the wrench. I recessed the two holes so I was able to turn the nut with a regular sized wrench.

nice job on the tool! dont you have a fan shroud?

Take the ICV off and spray starter fluid or something to get it clean and un sticky.

Thanks Jeff and Bill. Yeah, I have the shroud, I just took it out to make sure I didn't break anything on it since i just bought it. I think I just need to change my spark plugs or something to get my idle up a tad. The ones in the car are proabably original with 67,000 miles.

Remove it and blast it till it drips clean. I used up 2 cans of carb cleaner till the rotating valve inside was freed up.

Put in reversed or not, the clucth seems to be doig fine. I'm still waiting for a disgustingly hot day to make 100% sure though.

Andrew the spark plugs wont change your idle at all.. if you have a miss, new spark plugs will help but I really have never had any experience where spark plugs rasied or lowered an idle - it either fixed a miss or not. I'd say ICV and if not, you have that super duper fun manifold gasket thing im sure M60 owners can tell you about
