reboot question ----

Is there any way to reboot the computer other than having to rip out the rear seat to get to the battery to disconnect it?

Just below the the edge of the seat in front of the battery location is a plastic cover. Removing this cover reveals a junction block for the ground cable, removing this wire kills all power. The computer retains some power via capacitors I believe though so either wait a while or lift the seat and disconnect the cables and touch them together to discharge the caps.

unpluging the computer does the same thing and doesn't kill your radio or other settings, it's the one closest to the firewall in the box under the hood with the screwed down cover, passinger side for us cars

I have always been afraid to unplug it with the battery connected. not a big deal though??

i've done hundreds over the years, i don't unplug them with the key on as the computer is powered up at that point but key off it's harmless

Good to know. I've accidentally unplugged them a couple of times with the battery connected and each time had that Oh **** feeling wondering if I was going to screw something up.No consequences ever though so guess your right.
I don't at all understand how computers operate so treat them with caution.
I've been told they don't respond well to voltage surges and low voltage and such but that's all I "know".

thanks ... I did the ground wire deal in front of the rear seat. Worked fine until I dropped the cable post nut and it disappeared :( ... had to take the seat out anyway so I could peel back the floor. No shortcuts in life! EVER!!!

Pulling the seat out is a piece of cake, if you ask me. Hope everything worked out though.

Can doing a 'Shogun reset", help with the detonation/pinging, around 2000-2500 revs, that a few of us have been trying to chase down?
(95 525ia, EAT chip, 80k miles)
My pinging issue is at light throttle, around 2000-2500 revs, if i step on it,,it goes away, with the vacuum. Vanos?
