For the past year or so, my dash display has complained of "oil level sensor" when I start or stop the engine. After putting up with it this long, I finally bought a new one from BMA and had it installed when the car was in for other work.
Problem is... it's still complaining!
Is there anything other than a bad sensor that could cause this message?
Thanks,
Norman

Yup. Corroded or failed connector, failed sensor wiring, corroded connections at the ECU, or a bad ECU.

Pleeeeeese fill out your profile and put some details of your car in your title or sig. If you have an M60 engine there was a recent post about this issue.

Thanks, i've been meaning to do this. I usually put more information in the original post. Should be done now.
In any case, the car is a 1989 535i E34, with the E30 engine.
I believe my trusty Bentley manual indicates how to troubleshoot the sensor with a multimeter. Do the wires run straight from the harness to the sensor itself? I suppose I could check these with the multimeter as well.
Any other ideas? I've searched these boards in the past, and didn't find any related tips. If I missed something, i apologize!
Thanks
Norman
