Mine is 1994 525i. I looked at the
"http://www.bmwe34.net/e34main/Maintenance/Transmission/Data/E34%
Autotrans.pdf",
the tranmission type is THMR1. I am
able to identify the filler plug and drain plug. I
could not find where is the dipstick.
My question:
Where/how could I ADD TRANSMISSION FLUID?
Thanks in advanced.

I had the very same issue last week with my new 525i. I couldn't find the filler plug even with the manual. Seems i have a special tranny. I paid a shop 10 Euro to top mine off with the fluid I provided. Not saying you should avoid getting your hands dirty, but the motor and tranny is nothing to play around with. I'll let a profi do it until I learn myself.

now that your low on fluid, there is a special way to check this. the trans has to be at a certain temperature, level and running. how did the fluid look that came out?

I was so dumb. I drained three quarts of tranny fluid out first, then realised I couldn't find the fill hole. I drove it down the street and had a shop top it back off. The fluid that came out looked like motor oil! It was so filthy. Everything is fine now, but after my planned repairs I'll change the filter and fluid again.

Say it with me guys...
ALWAYS OPEN YOUR FILL PLUG BEFORE YOU OPEN THE DRAIN PLUG.
That way, you never get stuck not being able to find it, or draining everything out, only to find the fill plug is seized/stripped.

Yep, a lesson learned for sure. After owning several 5 series and 7 series, I thought I knew exactly what I was doing and didn't need to check a simple fill plug. Thanks for going easy on us!
