I'd go with a standard copper core, but go one temperature range colder. I had to get Iridium plugs for my 318 when I went s/c because they didn't sell a copper one any colder (in my fitment, I was at the coldest end of the range already with the stock plug).

Get the coldest one that fits, if you are running more than 7 PSI boost. Exotic plugs may not be better. I find NGKs pretty good.

They say one stage cooler for basic s/c, one for nitrous, and two for turbo. If you're running more than 7-8 psi on the s/c I'd go two stages... for a standard s/c application, one stage is cold enough, any colder and you're gonna start fouling them if you don't drive full throttle constantly.

Hi Folks,

I also have a Dinan stage 3 setup on my M60, M-Sport. The previous owner also put in the Dinan performance cams and a custom ram-air intake to go with the S/C setup. Sucker is very tractable below about 3000 RPM and screams to redline from 4000 RPM on, but the idle is very lumpy.

I don't drive it like a mad man, but I definitely wind it out at least once every couple days. I'd really like to cure the lumpy idle (despite the hot cams in there), and have been thinking about putting in some Iridium plugs. I have had great success with them in my other cars (Toyota 2zz motor and a ZR-1), and the science behind the 0.4mm tip is very sound thermodynamics.

I was thinking of going with the IK24 plugs (2 ranges colder), but reading this thread has me thinking about dropping down to IK22 for a smoother idle.

Dr. Frank, what did you end up going with? How does it work for you? Do you also have a lumpy idle?

Lastly, does anyone make a nice set of pre-cut spark plug wires for this car that are very high-temperature resistant?

Thanks for any info, advice, or wisdom.

No where to put it unless you delete air conditioning or do a funky front bumper. However, a water injection kit might give you a little extra.

They make an air to water aftercooler for the dinan setups I thought. It's just a simple vortech blower - I am sure you could do a small air to water unit.

I run 2 steps colder in my turbo 5.

Hi Guys,

I haven't seen a Dinan intercooler available, and I've even spent some time on the phone with one of their technical guys.

Jon, did you see this air to water unit from a 3rd party manufacturer or was it something custom? I'm not averse to either solution, since it's always a good idea to cool the intake charge.

Right now it's completely original Dinan stage III, except for the ram air holes routed out up front.

So without the intercooler, should I go with the IK24?

Thanks again,

Yup. She's been mine for about 2 weeks now. You have never seen a more spectacular looking 11 year old car, inside and out.

Mechanically sharp too. Put a couple pounds of R134a in last week - finished alignment, wheel balancing, and a re-tune of the suspension this week. Tomorrow she get's smogged (preliminary results were very clean). Next week it's a new California title, and sometime next month the plates will come in that read LAST M60.

It's actually the second to last e34 M60-6 with Left Hand Drive, but as you can imagine, that won't fit on an LP. I also tried LAST E34, but some lucky dog had already snagged that one.

Other than that, I've ordered a Noah car cover, and plan to add Iridium plugs, a Bentley manual, some Zymol for the leather, M5 floor mats, an Ipod/XM adapter for the BMW Business CD head unit, and maybe an Infinity BassLink out back. Really just minor stuff.

I also need to fix the "twisting seat" and change/clean the two air filters. I'm thinking about putting a new fuel filter in as well.

Gotta love all the DIY you can do with these cars. Not to mention all of the fantastic e34 websites and online resources kicking around. Wish I could find half as good information for my A4 Avant 3.0Q6.

Any of you guys have links or thoughts on the stereo upgrades? I think I've found the links I need for the seat and filters.

It's nice to be part of a new community.

Thanks again for any info.
