Hi
I want to turbo my 91 535i but my mach says this would create too much heat, drivelines issues and so forth, he recommended that I just sell the 5 and buy an E36 M3 which he said he can turbo the bejesus out of it if I wanted to. I sort of believe him bcos he his the best independant BMW mach in
Gauteng, but has anybody on the forum has had any other exp with a turbo on the 3.5 L motor.
Would appreciate your Help !

Use the search on top with 'turbo' or "M30 turbo"
and you will find out a lot of info like this

The general question you have to ask yourselves is wht kind of car you want.
And how much money you are willing to spend for such project.
If you tell us how much money you want to spent, for sure some proposals will come up.

Thanks will read up about that, Money is not too much of a problem as I bought the car for ZAR 30000 (USD4400) but have spent about ZAR 100 000 (USD 14 500) on it so far (selling would be out of the question). I originally wanted an E34 M5 but could not find a clean one and as i am a bit impatient I couldn't wait either so i bought the 535i. I am not a 1/4 mile racer but a top speed of 300+ would be nice. I also love the E34's shape, space, grace, comfort, handling (as soon as I can sort out the rear end, on mines it is a bit loose)

Although i fancy my self as a decent DIY'er I would never attempt a job of this magnitude myself.

Thanks
Get subframe inserts for the rear end. Biggest impact for the amount of money spent.

Have not lowered her yet as I won't make it up my driveway, waiting to move next month then down to the floor she goes, I want to stick with 17's but try and flare the arches ever so slightly so the wheel sits under the fender without to much arching. Will start pricing the suspension components for now though. Only noticed after i bought the car and fiited my stero system that the prvious owner cut away most of the metal from the backboard so that could be affecting the rigidity of the structure as well, may have to fit a rear strut brace toi get it back nice and tight.

Your mechanic obviously hasn't heard of TCD.
M30 (your engine) TCD turbo'd is a much better daily driver than an E36 M3 turbo dd.

Maybe i will just scource myself a 5lt V10. Sa drivers have already crashed a couple. no turbo needed (for a short time anyway)
I love M Power ; What my mechanic was trying to say that I was insane for pumping some much of money into the E34 bcos a turbo conversion with obviously have me doing the ffg ;
Recon Engine, incl forged pistons, diff cams, lifter etc
recon gearbox
upgrade brakes
strengthen sideshafts
After putting it down on paper I saw what he meant, but i still would like to do it but I would like to get it done properly.

Sounded like his TPS ( throttle position switch) switch was out of adjustment in the blue car. He had a hard time keeping smooth at low pedal or partial throttle.
But he'll tune that out when he re-Ohm's it. He obviously was going for a "maiden voyage" with her.....so the grin factor was probably all they were checking out.:D :D
Looks like a blast to me. Sans the truck like exhaust..:p

Yeah, but your mechanic isn't fully correct here. The TCD kit is set up for stock internals with the M30 engine. Even with your drivetrain, it should all be fine except you might want to invest in a better clutch. For brakes just get some nice rotors and pads.
The true question you should be asking is... who's going to fix it if it breaks? Not your usual indy. Not the dealer. You? :) Once you answer that question, jump on it!

**** That car is fast!!!
Like a coupple of seconds from 100kph to 240kph.. I know there is some wheel spin, but still.
And wheelspins when going from third to forth is also somewhat impressive!
