No... Not possible but you could source a close ratio 5 speed from an E28 M535i or 635CSI (both use the Dogleg getrag box with 5th gear being 1:1 not overdrive.)

Change your diff. Didn't somebody say that a 3.64 (maybe Jeff) is good ratio for a 5-spd?

Even with a 4.1 diff 5th gear is still an overdrive ratio on the stock 5 speed unless it's a dogleg box.

I believe the E127 E28 M535's run a 3.9 lsd with a 'real' 1:1 5th gear.

Why would you run a 4:10 diff on the street anyhow? what a waste of time........and fuel!

i bet you never use first gear......

I used to run 4:44 lockers in my mazda's but they were used for track/rally work and the Rotors have no problem sitting over 7500 rpm for extended periods.
My track 13b peripheral port would regularly see 9500 rpm shift points and pull to 9000 rpm by the end of the straight at Wanneroo raceway.

Imho anything over 3.9 is a waste of time for a daily driven car.....

Sort your diff out and don't worry about the 'box.

The bigest part of it was to get the lsd... If I could find a 3.9 lsd than thats what I would do. Can i have the gears changed now that i have lsd to 3.91?

EDIT:
I emaild the guys at diffsonline so I'll see what they say.

The 5 spd that comes with the US spec M50 has a 1:1 5th gear.

figure the math, a .2 gear rediction is hardly a difference for the money you will be spending.

actually the gears are like 150 and I work at a shop so i can swap them out myself.

Trans or dif gears? I seriously doubt you can convert your trans to an overdrive unit, operating principles are very different. Top gear torque passes thru the cluster gear in the OD units, whereas input and output shafts are simply locked together in 1:1 units.

Now you might be to swap the ring and pinion in your 4.10LS with 3.25 or perhaps 3.73 gears or just use the gears from the dif you removed. Finding someone who has the tools and knowledge to set the gears up might be difficult.

Sorry you are quite right..I work on Australian delivered vehicles O/D 5th on all the manuals here except the dogleg getrag boxes..... I wasn't aware there were different ratios for different countries?

i'm running the 3.9 Lsd in my 535 manaul atm.

5th gear at 110 kph is arounnd 2800 rpm in her from memory....

3.9 to 4.10 is actually quite a big change as far as seat of the pants acceleration goes.

Mine with the 3.9 pulls cleanly from walking pace in 2nd gear.
