What weight oil are you running? I'm just about due for my first oil change (in my possession that is) and I'm thinking of using 20w50. I know that too thick of an oil is counter-productive, so I don't wanna go thicker than I need.

I am not in Texas, but I am in San Diego and 20x50 is what the indy put in my car.

sounds good to me. It gets pretty darn hot where you guys are. I've had really good results with valvoline max life, so I'll probably go with that. I have a ton of oil change receipts from the original owner, but none specified if they used dino or synthetic, and with 154k, I doubt it'd be any benefit to switch now if he used dino all this time. Generally I use the max life and a quart of lucas.

I'm in Texas, and I have used Mobil 1 10w something for almost 200k miles. Still don't use oil between cahnges. 20w50 will be fine, too near as I can see. Just keep up with your change intervals.

If you have no leaks, I'd dance with the oil that brung ya. Check all them thar receipts to find the make and model.

nothing but 20/50 in my BMW's. Non synthetic....sold 535 with 235K miles..and 530 with 170K miles...no engine problems...neither burned oil..at all. Currently also use it in my 89 835 with 165K miles. I did put thin synthetic on last two winter trips to Vermont....
