When cruising my econometer is never at ease, always small left/right movements. Is this normal or a sign of vacuum leak etc?

The computer is always recalculating the instantaneous MPG, If you're on a flat road traveling at a steady speed, It usually won't move much more than a nudge in either direction. I was under the impression the instantaneous gauge is controlled by the OBC, not vacuum.
I'm sure somebody else may know more.

It is not controlled by vacuum, but that doesnt mean that a leak couldnt affect it.
