I have been offered to swap my 15 inch baskets for 16 inch Tstars. The guy wont do a straight swap as I suggested but he will do a swap + cash. The thing is I have no idea what I should pay. I am thinking $500 or less. Any ideas of how far to go? THanks.

i'm assuming they're from an e31? $500 would be a good number. both sets of wheels have good tires and all that, correct?

Actually I should have asked but I have no idea of his tyre condition. I have hancoook V rated tyres which is the correct rating for the 5 and mine are new as of a month or so ago.
Sorry, why would you assume they are from an E31?? cause their 16 inch? I will ask.

that could play the deciding factor you dont want to give up wheels with really good tires + a decent chunk of change and then have to turn around and buy a new set of tires.

Yeah I know, on the other hand I think they are probably the best wheels I have ever seen so I dont want to let it slip. I will have to see how it pans out.
Again, is 16 inch wheels from an e31 and larger from the e34 m5 or something. Cause I am wondering why you would assume the 16 inch Tstars are from an E31.

e34 m5 wheels were 17" in turbine and t-star form, and 18" in M Parallel form

Yo, throwing stars are only available in 17"s and angrypancake is talking about usd$500.
You need to ask yourself WHY he wants to do this? Is he selling the car stock, etc?

According to this page there's no such thing as 16" t-starts, for an e31 or otherwise. Don't get burned with reproduction wheels.

He says the reason he wants to do it is because he thinks the 15's have a better ride. Thats fine with me. He is a BMW nutt too, has owned a 750iL currently has 525i, 535i and 735iL. He thinks his 525i feels softer or something and when I said I liked his Tstars he said he would be interested in a swap for my 15 baskets. I have emailed a few questions to him and we will see where it leads. BTW Last week we were talking about a full swap, the 735iL for my 5, but insurance on the 7 was so much it put me off, plus I have just had my transmission rebuilt and would hate to get the 7 and start again with a worn trans. Thanks for the advice so far.

see if you can get a photo of all 4 of the wheels
they maybe fakes they shouldn't all look the same the direction of the centre bit should be different for 2 of them

T-stars weren't available in 16s FYI--they are repros if they are 16" and will be a lot heavier than the stock T-stars with lightweight base wheels and the cover.

.... sure the guy may be a BMW nut, but that doesn't necessarily mean you can trust him... sorry but plain truth.... besides 17 inch wheels would look better, and they'd be from an //M car if you got them, I'd say hold out for the real deal... be they t-stars, style 5s, M-pars or whatever..they'd be authentic, they'd also probably be lighter and stronger too... good luck.

I will investigate further. Funny thing is, I actually said to the guy they looked like fakes because they had a funny look about them, he said he didnt know! so you could be right. Maybe a straight swap is in order, or none at all.

The covers of real T-Stars come off, the covers of replica T-Stars are molded in to the edge of the wheel. IOW, the "covers" are molded in as part of the wheel. At least the replicas I've seen.
If they're replicas, in my opinion, they're worthless. Your stock wheels are higher quality.

Pancake,
I'll not be bidding against you anymore. I think I got a good deal.. Even better since I needed new tires and my indy wants my old 15" baskets.

That's a hell of a deal! Good for you.:D
To the OP:
As others have suggested, forget 16" and get 17 - you will be better off with a deal like smcgowan just got.
