Just sold my 95 525it yesterday, think she's going to a good home.
The consolation is that I picked up my 2000 528it M-package last night as well...woohoo! Here's a pic:

Well, the 528 has the full M-sports package, so it rides rougher and handles better. It feels a little more solid in driving, but overall, the quality of the interior pieces don't seem to be quite as good as the e34. They are good, just not that good.
What's really noticable is that this wagon gets a really tight steering box with very few turns to lock, and the M-sport steering wheel is really solid and beefy. This makes it more tossable. The 528 motor definitely has more punch, and the transmission is more eager to shift, but given that the 525 was and "economy mode" transmission that makes sense.
It's definitely a better car, as with the advance of technology, and the interior feels a little bit roomier. But I still think the e34 is better looking.

No need to "leave the fold"!! The name of this board is "5-series BMW Particularly E34", not just E34's.......
Nice ride.
