After searching for a while, I got a very nice Getrag G290/5 gearbox specially designed for the M30 big six used on the Alpina B10 Bi-turbo. This unit is very stout, with the basic box used on the 850csi. Been doing a bit of research into fitting in and wanted to share in case anyone has done this and can give me pointers.
This G290/5 for the B10BT is designed for the M30 engine bellhousing pattern, has a standard 535i 29mm x 10 spline pattern input shaft and 12mm pilot bearing, so all the front end interfaces are plug and play for my current set up.
However, the rear uses the biggest BMW output flange and guibo from an 850csi (110mm PCD x 14mm bolts). Also, I am not sure about the overall length. Since I already run a G260/6 from a 535i, I wondered if someone knows the overall length of the 260 from bellhousing face to output flange face (my car is in a shop not close to me a the moment so I cant get to it).
As far as the driveshaft, it will need some work as it needs a bigger front flange. I am in search of 3 lug flange from the front of a manual 850i driveshaft, which I expect to be rare as rocking horse ****, so plan B is to machine a custom flange and weld it onto my existing srive shaft. Does anyone know where there might be an 850i breaking?
