anything to seal it to the valve housing? Like an adhesive or something? Or does it just sit in place while being screwed down when you put the cover back on?

Flop it on, bolt it down...just make sure the mating surfaces are clean.

It is rubber and sits well... The new seal around the spark plugs is also rubber (or should be) and was what I really needed. Mine were harder than hard plastic and literally broke apart lots of pieces. This is a pretty easy job that I put off for along time, it took about 90 minutes working at a relatively slow pace.
