I'm not a fan of plates that blatantly say what the car is, like BMWE34 or whatever, its so easy to tell that it's a BMW, you don't need to spend money on a plate (cosmetic or actual government registered) to state the obvious.

Oh no not at all Paul! Seriously, my opinion is just of one man, if you are happy with getting the above plate, then by all means do it.

I just find it a little pointless to spend big bucks (at least in Victoria, Australia) to get plates that say BMW on it when it's clear that the car they're on is a BMW in the first place. Kind of like wearing a Nike hat, Nike sweater, Nike tracksuit pants, Nike socks, Nike underwear, Nike shoes... looks a bit silly in my opinion.

Rob's Queensland euro plates are better IMO, it is more personal, and if he ever decides to get rid of the E34 and finally get the Porsche he wants, he can transfer the plates over easily.

EDIT: By the way, I want to get europlates for my E34. In Victoria where I am, there are very limited choices in what I can have on my euro, 2 letters and 3 numbers only, in that order. GH are my initials.

I got myself out of the fine though, I was really prefessional about to response that I sent to the judge.
Regardless, be careful, it's asking to get pulled over.

I agree about getting a real German one with whatever comes on it--Munich would be nice. Charles, why did you get a ticket? Are you supposed to display front and rear tags in your state? In GA we only require the rear, leaving the front for anything you may want...

Does anyone have a part number for the genuine BMW Euro license frame for the front bumper? I would like to go that route if I get a Euro tag. The only disadvantage I see is having a nice big target for a radar/laser gun to bounce off of for speeding tickets.

51111934337. That's the part number to get rid of the U.S. license bracket, but most dealers will have to order it from Germany because it isn't needed for the U.S. market.

To an ordinary motorist it would look like any other random plate, but a bmw fan will know right off :)

That part doesn't fit cars with M bumper, here's the right one for M5/540i M Sport... 51112230369 it's just a small strip.

Cars with standard bumper of 1995 model year have a plate holder with grains Part number... 51118148821

You don't need to buy the side strips, just like I didn't need to buy the US side strips for my cars that have the US ones.

While we are at it, buy the rear Euro M5 panel to get even more Euro look... part number 51132230430

If I were to ever do euro plate, I'd probably just put it behind the US one in the rear. Gets the point across and don't have to worry about police. One thing is not to have a front plate on the front and another is to have one froma different country.

I believe I was the first person to come up with the body class, engine class euro plate. I love it, only bimmer nuts know what it means.

I HAD freedom with my front plate, til i moved to Maryland. MD requires both front and back plate. Haven't titled and registered yet, still have the black DARE plate on the back, haha. ok, what kind of trim should i get to replace the front license plate, i know bavauto has one that is plate black or another one that says it MIGHT ready BMW embossed, anybody know of anything cleaner i can get to fill it?

Export plate has the red part, yellow instead of red means temporary plate not allowed outside Germany, you don't see if a car is rental in Germany.

Thanks for the part numbers Stephan--I like the look of the Euro rear, but I'm afraid that the US plate will be too long [meaning top to bottom, not left to right] to screw in properly, as well as leaving a huge space on each side. I wish that we had freedom of plates and could pay extra for a Euro-style tag here. We have all sorts of custom tags you can get by state, but they are all the same shape. Would be better if we could get a Euro-style plate with the US state on the left bar and the state flag/color above the abbreviation like the Euro tags. Too bad most State Governments/Americans of driving age don't give 2 $hits about cars, driving, or anything transportation-related. It's all a convenience and revenue-generating thing here for most people.

Yes it's correct, it's the same part on 88-94 525i, 540i or any other modelwithout M5/M-technic bumper (manual cars low power cars (525i)without A/C have a different part, but I belive that all US cars have A/C as standard?)
