These things called Telsas have HIT the car market. Some big names are behind this, and the first car produced has VERY impressive performance:
ie
185kW
0-100kmh in 4 seconds
Drive for days and days on one charge
Heaps cheaper than petrol...
Yes you heard right, its a frikkin electric car and they are taking orders already. (http://www.teslamotors.com).. and there are more details here (http://www.globalautoindex.com/news.plt?no=1496)

how many $100 000s does it cost?Rumour I heard was about $150kUSD was the cost to buy one of the first 100 that are being made now... I think you would enjoy this site on the subject (http://www.acpropulsion.com/) Rob, its pretty in-depth ;)

Looks like an awesome little car. But you need 3-phase in the garage to power it up. The Li-Ion battery lasts for something like 900,000 cycles- that's over a million kilometres LMAO!

venturi have been making electric performance cars for a number of years now, it all depends on weather it'll catch on or not

Venturi, isn't that a french mob? I find electric cars more distasteful than petrol or diesel. as we have coal fired power plants in this country. something that the greenies conveniently forget
but we have uranium, but thats bad ummmmmmkay!

I figure I have a better chance of doing that than waiting for John Howard to understand the need for new energy technology- let alone actually do something about it...

I don't like the Venturi much, it must be the Paris Poseurs look that shits me. Tesla have some serious marketing people involved though. After all, the Terminator has already test-driven it.... :D

well im not big on french crap anyways. their cheese fkn stinks, wine wif fem bubles is ova priced and ther a packa rude bastards. do ya reckon we might be retro fitting this technoligy in to our cars in 10 years? imagine implemanting this tech into 3rd world countires to operate machinery to do other things like run hospitals etc and farm implements. we could have a big treadmill at guantanamo and let them jihad jerkoffs power the world for few years.

A mere $ 75,000.00 down... And 25,000.00 due at delivery. Now if they could get the cost down around the cost of the MR2...

BTW; Russ is dead Matt, but don't tell the world trade fair gravy-trains! They'd work out who Mark Vaille was and then we'd loose out on the return from some of those great 'payback' deals that funded the frikkin Jihad in the forst place...

Trying googling 'ultracapacitors'.

The big problem with chemical batteries is the charge time. No one is willing to wait hours for their car to refuel. Ultracapacitors charge in a few minutes and have a recharge cycle life 100's of times of what batteries have. I forget the name of the company in Texas, but they are supposed to be close to supplying Zenn Auto in Canada with a capacitor power supply next year.

That is EEStor, Inc. a private company. Maxwell MXWL is a CA company and is on stock market. Any other stocks in this field?

do you know what the abbreviation for lotus is? Lots Of Trouble Usually SeriousLOL. I don't think any of the electrics on this car will be supplied by the Gods of Darkness (Lucas) though Niz :) Yes Ultracaps are cool and look lilly to provide owners a 6 minute charge!

However our power infrastructure isn't up to the task of replacing the petrol stations, and the oil companies control our politicians (or the other way around) and we (the Public) sure as hell have trouble controlling them... they may ban EVs to 'save the grid' 'cause they won't be able to implement alternative power generation, build Nuclear Power stations and upgrade local delivery infrastructure (3-phase) at the required speed to support the take up of electric cars. Of course they will say and do anything to avoid their oil stocks collapsing, perhaps even choke their own children (and ours)... well maybe not, but it is easily arguable that they (we) have already gone too damn close. :) Nick
