hi all, i am now the proud owner of some hids and felt i should share my joy
the nice chap selling them is extremely helpful and the kit itself was a bargain and very very cheap - he's uk based but i think ships internationally

i know i took a gamble by going cheap but the kits qualty does look v v good and so far am v happy

Does anyone know if the 12000k lights are at least as bright as the stock lamps?I like that Violet color...

Is one kit for only lowbeam? Do I need 2 kits if I want to covert the highbeam as well? Is the installation is 'plug & play'? I'm interested in converting mine. Thanks!

1 kit per pair of lights - lo, high or fog . bear in mind my cars uk spec and uses h1 bulbs on all three, i'm not sure about other countries.

they're almost plug and play, one of the terminals/connectors doesnt match the bmw loom but i didn't need to modify it in anyway although it wouldn't take much. bout 30 mins max fitting time

problem solved i think

i changed my lkm a while ago and i think that was cusing the problem, just been to a scrapyard and got a replacement the same model as the original one, re-soldered for good measure and seems ok now fingers crossed

i'm using a h1 6000k kit - lo beam and am loving it so far

as for 12000k i think it would look too blue/purple - bear in mind higher k means lower brightness to the naked eye

12000k is entirely too violet. Go with 6000k, MAYBE 7500k if you are really wanting color. 8000, 10000, and 12000 are STUPID.

I'd go with with no more than 4800k. Any more and you lose light output.

Also go with a reputable place such as McCullough.

Let's not get started with another McCullouch debate. In a nutshell, QC isn't good enough to be reputable. Granted, their QC may be a smidge better than other fly-by-night HIDs ops.

Of all the ones I've tested (McCulloch, Cebt, Kaixen, JSM, Genesis, and MTEC), only Kaixen has the quality AND incredible customer service (if you ever need it) to be under the reputable umbrella for me. I have also played with (read: not tested like the others) two pretty much nameless kits and I'd sooner trust running chicken wire than their harnesses. Believe me, I have gone through more HIDs and headlamps than most would need to on this forum... for better or worse. Again, I digress, the McCullochs I tested were 9006 and H1, new type with inline ignitor (not integral to ballast). Disqualifications for me would merely need to be mismatched color when warmed up. Being thorough, I would swap ballast and bulb to ensure as fair a test for me as possible.

As with any product, there are good apples and bad apples in the bunch. Some just have more bad than good... and the ones that acknowledge and immediately recitify the bad/odd ones are reputable.

That's fine. I've had good experience with McCulloch. :)

I'm less focused on what brand he gets and more focused on not getting a cheap Ebay kit and him getting the appropriate temperature. If he goes over 8000 then I hope he doesn't have to drive at night. ;)

Hopefully my post didn't come as a flame... I need to proof before posting. Anyway...

Jon K, that's a pretty good price for full Philips... H1 4300k @ $479. Granted I'd want to go 5300k and that gets pricy @ $579 :(

We need both an official install for HID and Halos.

Any problems with phillips Jon? I'll probably be going with them.

i love my prolumen 6000K, never had a mis-ignite, the bulbs are matched perfect, and they are soooo nice looking.

i think 6000k is bang on, very very white but not the blue you get with 8000 and god forbid 1200!

just had my 'aim' checked and adjusted as well for good measure! roll on darkness!
