Is it possible to place a M60 engine from E34 540IA in E34 520i 24V ?

Hello BMW fans. I have BMW E34 520i 24V '90 year. Yesterday I bought another BMW '95 year E34 540 IA, with hard accident. The chassis is damaged, but the engine, the gearbox, and SUSPENSION are in good condition . I will place some pictures. The question is - Is it possible to import the engine and the gearbox in my car?. Or there are main diferencies between two models? What kind of difficulties I can meet in this operation?

Is it a good idea - I want to drive car with 286 hp. under my front hood.

Why swap? A little paint, fix some of the scratches, and it'll be like new! :D

omg... how the hell did somebody manage that? And I agree, You'd be my hero to have a convertible 540i

Believe me, I want to have convertible 540IA but as you can see on pictures, that is inposible. The chassis of 540IA is totaly damaged. I seriously think abot changing 2000cc 150 hps engine with 40. liter 286 hps :)... but where willhave problems. That is the question ?

you will need the computers for the engine and trans from the doner car, a different radiator and have to figure how your going to put the brake system (under the hood) into your car.

should be smooth sailing after that :D

The radiators,gerabox, engine, and computers are in good condition, but I an wondering Is there any diference in front and rear axle between models? The suspension from 540IA is also too in perfect condition, becouse the hit is directly in the doors.

the rear end is larger (actual ring & pinion gear is heavy duty) in the 540, grab that and all the brackets, the driveshaft and half shafts so its possible to bolt it all in.

to do the swap properly you will also need suspension modifications, as the 4.0 engine is about twice the weight of the 2.0, and there are LOTS of parts in the engine bay that will need to be replaced... pretty much every single piece in there. $$$$$$$$$$$

it will probably be cheaper to buy another 540.

you will have to swap just about every part from the 540 into your car.I'd budget 4-6 months in my garage and $6-7,000 US in parts to get it done right. Its a matter of stripping your own car's interior, suspension, drive train and electronics (and every part on the loom which is right into every nook and cranny in the car) out first. Then start moving the braking system, suspension and rear subframe, diff, etc. and steering (some of this will need to be renewed no doubt) and then the electrics would have to come accross (and may need some repairs- a few plugs/wires will end up in pieces). Then pull the sump and replace the M60 oil pump, timing gear, inspect all the cylinders (it should be leak down tested but I doubt that is possible). After it is all spruiced up you can fit the 540 drive train (new clutch/centre bearing/guibo- the shaft could be bent in that thing), how's the exhaust on that wreck btw? After that you get to connect it all up and find it won't work for a month or so until you cna figure out why..... yea no real biggie :)

A damn good little project really.
