Noticed a growl when I braked hard this morning, inspected the rotor and I appears that I need a brake job.

Outboard pad wore down before the in board, so no sensor warning.

I am picking up Balos rotors for $75 each

But the big decision is Pagid or Raybestos QS cermaics?

Pagid unless your wheels are really hard to clean.

OpParts rotors are like 20 bux each at bma...

I like the QS, good grip, no noise, no dust.

I have heard great things about Akebonos--I will be getting some of those shortly to replace my old ass crap squeaking stock fronts. They are also ceramic and supposedly give off very little dust...

I use original pads from the stealer - I find them fantastic but I don't know which brand they are.

I'm about to order a set of Akebono Euro Ceramics from Tirerack.
They'll cost $184.00 USD for a set delivered to Melbourne, Australia.

I just bought a pair of German front rotors made by Texstar @ $64.00 AUD each ($48.00 USD each) from a local Euro parts importer here in Melbourne. They also had some Chinese rotors for sale at $45.00 AUD each.

Set of Raybestos QS ceramics.

The whole job was a classic case.

Old rotors had lips bigger than Mick Jagger's

one pad had a rivet just breaking through, and a rub mark from the lip.

tear down...

One side was easy...

The other side the hex bolt hole rounded out and required a little ball peen action to keep progressively larger hex bits in it.

One rotor had to be massaged off, ball peen to the rescue!

Everything went back together nice and tight, the only challenge was the in- board pad cilps, they seem to not want to grab into the piston without a lot of pressure.

Tonight I'll take her on a run to the windward side to bed to brakes.

Hie34, since you missed the show last night, let me know when you do yours, and I'll bring my hammer and hex bits.

a couple :D

I warped my brembos bedding in the old pads, cant find a reason to do it again. The pads were totally heat cracked too.

if I fried my new brakes in one day....$200 down the drain

The box warned not ride the brakes longer than 15 seconds for the first few hundred miles.

I'm going to be doing a brake job soon too. What 's the story on $20 rotors?

I don't need the highest end of the price range but don't want to cheap out either. I don't know what is on the car now but they have approx. 80k miles on them. I would use them again if I knew what they were.

What would a dealer use for rotors? Seems like the QS are the way to go for pads.
