Unloader Relays

Okay, I've been sitting here with my Bentley and several beers (Gordon Biersch marzen) looking for the source of a weird problem.

Car starts, runs, guages are dead, instument lighting is very dim, radio dead, turn signal indicators are both on and steady.


push the hazard light button.....

and the cluster come alive.

all is well


traced it all back the the unloader relays, anyone else have experiance with this?

What do unloader relays do, anyway? I thought they disconnected accessories such as the blower when cranking the engine, or is this incorrect?

to find out what happens when they start crapping out.

I suspect I have one that's going, and causing some weirdness on start ups very once in a while.

like to isolate it and replace it before it fails.
