Anyone has sucesss lubing up a blower motor ?

I saw some dicussion in the archives about brush replacement. Mine still works fine- just noticing that its squeals on ocasion. Anyone had luck lubing it up or should I just plan on a replacement ?

the bearings are getting play in them that's the squeel, lube may buy you a little time but not long

I put a new blower in an '89 525 last weekend for a friend - his old one was howling like a banshee.

For the amount of trouble getting to the blower and trying a "fingers crossed" lube, just put in a new one from BMA.

On a 525 M20 or 535 M30 it can be changed without huge drama, just 2 hours of fiddly work and cut hands. I hope mine never craps out since there's no room to R&R it on the M.

I took a dremel and opened up the housing that held the bearings, and squirted in some heavy motor oil. Its been working for a year so far with no squeaks. *knock on wood* I'll leave this morning and it will sound like there's a cat caught in it now :(

Thanks for the follow-up. I will weigh the odds and decide whether to attempt the 'fix' or just replace. How much time did you spent removing it from the M50 engine bay?

Honestly it was a complete BITCH because the wiring harness was hard to stretch enough to allow the fan through. On its way back in I hairline cracked one of the splines but super glued it back. If I wasn't worried about not cutting hoses/etc I think removing its replacement from the 535i in the boneyard would be harder, but maybe onces that reservoir is out of the way it might slide out easier (on the 535i) Silly e30 took all of 3 minutes to take it in/out.

I took mine apart and polished out the bushings. I then packed it with grease. Put in some thin plastic washers to keep the grease in place. The hardest part was cutting the tabs on one end of the blower and then tack welding them back on. Had to do a little realignment but she is working fine. I guess it would have been easier to just replace the blower with a new one but what is the challenge in that?

nah e34/32s aren't that bad, you want whore bimmer blower do a e36, i have it down to around 45 minutes with dropping the engine and cross member down about 4 inches, otherwise it takes me and someone who's done it before about twice that

Keep close tabs on your parts. I got mine all back together and forgot the damn dust shield.

While you are in there - clean off the heater core - mine was full of dust bunnies.
