G'day,
What's the US part name for what we call here in Oz a radius arm?
Appreciate any feedback on what the part is/where you've best purchased...
Cheers,

USUALLY (though don't quote me on this) a radius arm is either an upper or lower control arm (thrust arm, or lower control arm). which one is it?

thrust arm / upper control arm. not the lower one, just the upper one. purchase from bmaparts.com
See part number 7. (http://realoem.com/bmw/showparts.do?model=HD23&mospid=47408&btnr=31_0250&hg=31&fg=05)

In the USA the only thing I can think of that has Radius arms are mainly Ford and some Dodge trucks.. They hold the suspension forward and allow it to articulate up and down.
They are fitted on the outer sides of the front suspension and extend towards the back of vehicle a few feet.
Most all Japanese imports have Radius rods which extend from the lower control arm to front of vehicle at an angle which resembles a "A", and can be adjusted slightly to correct caster angle.
I'm not sure which Bimmers have these.
Maybe look at realoem.com to ID part you need, and come back with more info.

You'll find a radius arm on the back of a Fiat Punto (do you have those?). It holds the wheel bearing in place. Daft idea really as they don't last long!
