I had the very same issue happen to my 520i some time ago. I lost all power inside the cabin. The solution was pretty simple, if you are lucky then this would be the following:
Remove the fuse box and look under it. This is an annoying job given the huge amount of cables below it. There are a number of brass terminals connecting all the mains together, on my car one of these terminals was completely rusted and there was water leaking inisde this area due to a bad seal somewhere. All I did is changed the terminal and BINGO. The beast was alive and kicking again. I am not familiar with the 535 but hope this helps you out.
