Went to the University of Illinois this weekend, had a blast...don't remember very much. Like an idiot, I left my Escort detector mounted on the windshield when I left the car at a parking garage Friday night. I had a bad feeling about it as we walked from the car but, like an idiot, didn't do anything about it. Got dropped off at the parking garage today to drive back to IU and this is what I see. The drive back was a blast. There were also a bunch of "roll up the window, it's cold!" jokes. :rofl

Not only did the *******s break the window, they used a crowbar or something to pry it open for whatever reason, and still broke the window. So now the weatherstripping is ruined, that trim piece is ruined, the window is gone, there is a small scratch on the inside doorpanel from something, and there are small paint chips down to the metal, as if there were a golf shoe driven into the paint.

And not only did the do all of this damage, but they didn't even take my friend's iPod sitting in the glovebox! Nor the quarters on the console! I'm offended! :lol

Does anybody know where I can get these parts? Window, weatherstripping, and that trim piece.

You should look into something like that bulletproof 7er that was up on ebay awhile back. It had like ... 1.5 inch thick windows. I'd laugh at someone trying to break that.

Sorry for your luck.

Damn, too bad. Sounds like you're taking it in stride though.

weatherstripping can be had at the dealer or at BMA. I recently had Yves send me some front window weater stripping that the tint clowns messed up.

Thanks guys. :)

I guess I'll get the weatherstriping from BMA, the trim piece from a parts car (because a new one won't match and I don't have the $$$ for M5 Shadowline, and who knows where I'll find a window.

For now it's the Hefty bag and duct tape mod! haha

I'm sorry to see that. E34 + hefty just isn't sexy. Is that the garage on 5th? It would be nice to know where not to park.

looks like they tried to just pop the door open with a coat hanger or slimjim and then pried for more access. and when that failed the poped the window out. Be thankful they didnt mess up anything else!

now we gonna leave the radar detector in the open anymore?

Hrmm, I think so. About 4 stories tall.

It was a block away from Green St. I don't know Champaign well. Hell, I couldn't tell you what the bars look like on the inside, haha.

Now I see what they did.

They were experienced. Apparently the window won't shatter easily when a crowbar hits it, so they have to pry the crowbar under the window and lift it, which literally explodes the window. The marks on the paint are from the crowbar, where they were trying to get it right.

As far as leaving the detector in the open, well, I have to get a new detector first, then we'll worry about it. :D

And yes, it could have been much worse.

I have my V1 up just under the rear view mirror, virtually hidden with the windshield tint. I am lucky to have garage storage and it sits 10 feet away from me all day at work. Anytime I go anywhere (airport etc) it gets pulled down and at least under the seat. Other than that resteraunts etc I dont worry about it at all because, well, you can hardly see it even looking in the windows because of where its at.

When I had my Pathfinder, the detector was mounted 24/7 for a whole year. Lucky nothing happened, but I always park in huge lots (I'm in college).

I go to U of I for a weekend and it gets taken. Unbelievable.

same thing happened to my rear triangle window, including the slim jim scrapes and bends... (WHY THE TRIANGLE WINDOW?) I don't know... But yeah, the weatherstripping was cut with a razor, I'm thinking by the window replacement guys after the fact... PO wasn't too bright.

I had to replace the rear window in June-- thankfully not because someone was trying to break-in. I searched and found that a local junk yard had an E34 parts car. I was able to snag the window for 30bucks or something like that. The rear window wasn't all that hard to replace.

Looks like Zionsville Autosport near Indianapolis has a driver's window for $65. They might have some serviceable trim parts as well if you ask.

Thanks for all the help!

I'm ordering the trim piece and window from Antrieb's parts car for $50 + shipping, sounds like a fine deal to me.

I'll order the weatherstripping and the touchup paint later today.

That sucks, as I said before. I've seen people break into cars and cut the leather up also when all that was stolen was a cell phone or radar detector. I really do hate thieves.

Many vandals target the rear "triangle window" (between C- and D-pillar) because it's a smaller glass and therefore makes less noise when smashed.

The other day I realised that my rear driver's side window has been replaced -- it looks like replaced by BMW since it has a BMW logo on it, but all my other windows are BMW E1 SEKURIT while this one is BMW E2 SIKURSIV. Not sure what the difference is between the two.

Just visiting from Indiana University in Bloomington.

I will say:

The chinese restaurant "Empire" is delicious.

The bars run by the frats kick ass.

I liked it but like IU better. ;)
