Those are called the 'service indicators', search on the forum, you'll find tons of info

Oil service interval, see owners manual.

To reset the service indicator after performing an oil-service or an inspection:
1. With the ignition off connect pin 7 (SI reset) with pin 19 (gnd). Remeber to fuse this wire or to use a resistor just to be safe.
2. Turn the ignition to position 2.
3. Pull the wire out after about 5 seconds to get an oil reset or 10 seconds for an inspection reset.
3. Now replace the cap on the diagnostic connector.
4. Turn off the ignition.

no the best thing ever about the si lights was on the e30, you open the cluster and pop the daughter card with the lights on it off throw it away and never be bothered again with that useless crap, if you change your oil about every two lights you are ok, go the full term and you put around 9k on your oil
